The short version
OpenMYO runs in your browser (openmyo.com/app) or as a Mac app. It has no accounts, no database and no analytics. Your drafts and audio stay on your device until you press Sync. Then they go straight from your device to Yoto.
What stays on your Mac
Drafts, audio files, icons, covers, downloads from video links, and your Yoto and Spotify sign-ins are kept in OpenMYO’s own folder on your Mac (~/Library/Application Support/OpenMYO). We cannot see them. Settings → Delete local data removes your drafts; deleting the app and that folder removes everything.
In your browser
In the browser version, drafts, audio, saved card versions and your Yoto sign-in are kept in that browser’s own storage for openmyo.com. We cannot see them. Settings → Delete local data removes your drafts; clearing the site’s data in your browser removes everything. The browser version can’t add video links or Spotify playlists, and it doesn’t search yotoicons.com.
Who OpenMYO talks to
- Yoto (login.yotoplay.com, api.yotoplay.com): when you sign in and sync. You sign in on Yoto’s own page; OpenMYO never sees your password. Yoto’s privacy policy covers what you send there.
- YouTube: when you paste a YouTube link, OpenMYO reads and downloads it from your Mac, using your internet connection.
- Spotify (accounts.spotify.com, api.spotify.com): only if you set up Spotify playlists in Settings. You sign in on Spotify’s own page, through a Spotify app you create in your own Spotify account. OpenMYO reads the song names in the playlists you paste, then searches YouTube for each song’s title and artist. Spotify’s privacy policy covers what you send there.
- GitHub: OpenMYO checks GitHub for updates to its video downloader (yt-dlp) and verifies their signature before using them. The Mac app also asks GitHub once a day whether a newer OpenMYO is out; nothing about you or your cards is sent. The OpenMYO download itself is also hosted on GitHub.
- Apple iTunes Search (itunes.apple.com): the words you type when you search for podcasts, artwork or tracklists, and the card’s title when you open the cover finder.
- yotoicons.com: track and card titles, as searches for icons made by other parents.
- Google (fonts.gstatic.com): when OpenMYO picks pictures for your tracks, it may download emoji images from Google’s font service. Google sees which emoji were fetched, not your titles.
- MusicBrainz (musicbrainz.org): album and artist names when you look up a tracklist.
- Podcast hosts: when you add a podcast, OpenMYO downloads its feed and episodes from the show’s own host.
- Cloudflare: hosts this website. Like any web host, it handles your IP address and the pages you request.
- OpenMYO AI tidy (openmyo.com, PPQ.ai, DeepSeek): only when you press “Ask AI for better titles”. The card title, track titles and file names go to openmyo.com, which passes them to PPQ.ai to run DeepSeek’s V4.1 Flash model. If we change the model, we update this page. We ask PPQ.ai to use only providers that don’t keep or train on requests. Never audio. OpenMYO doesn’t keep them: our logs record only how many tracks and how long it took. PPQ.ai’s and the model provider’s own policies cover what they do with a request. If you put your own Anthropic key in OpenMYO’s settings file, AI tidy goes to Anthropic instead.
- OpenMYO AI chapter names (openmyo.com, PPQ.ai, Google Gemini): when you look up official titles, the words you search for and the number of tracks go to openmyo.com, which passes them to PPQ.ai to run Google’s Gemini 3.7 Flash model and suggest a book’s chapter names. Nothing else from the card is sent. The same rules apply as for AI tidy.
Each of these sees your IP address, as with any website. We do not send them anything else about you.
What OpenMYO does not do
No tracking, no advertising, no analytics, no selling of data, and no crash reports sent without you. If something goes wrong, “Report a problem” opens an email you can read and edit before sending.
Children
OpenMYO is a tool for grown-ups who make cards for children. It asks for no names, ages or profiles. Card and track titles you type stay on your device and go to Yoto when you sync, and to the AI service only when you press “Ask AI for better titles”.
Contact
Questions, problems or requests about your data: team@openmyo.com. We don’t hold your drafts or audio, so we can’t see or delete them for you.
To report a card or content that shouldn’t be there, or anything unsafe, write to the same address. We reply within a few days.
Terms
OpenMYO is free and provided as is, without warranty. Only add audio you have the right to use, including audio from video links. You are responsible for what you put on your Yoto cards.
OpenMYO is independent and is not made, endorsed or supported by Yoto. Yoto is a trademark of its owner.
